This 172 page coffee table book takes a nostalgic look at the bygone era of Jewish businesses in and around Atlantic City and contains over 350 photos never seen before in public and dozens of family stories and commentaries reminiscent of Atlantic City’s Jewish business “glory days” — from the turn of the century to the 1970s.

 

The book is categorized into sections covering Apparel, the Boardwalk, Food & Beverage, Hotels & Motels, Restaurants, Theaters & Entertainment, and Wholesale & Retail. It also recognizes the special opportunity Atlantic County provided for Holocaust survivors, many of who came to the area and got their start in the poultry and egg business before moving on to other Atlantic City business ventures. Another chapter pays tribute to 18 local businesses that have survived the test of time.

 

A Dream • A Journey • A Community was honored in 2009 as "Winner" in the National Best Books Awards for "general history" and won a bronze medal in the 2010 Axiom Business Book Awards.
