Cha-Cha was a parakeet of many talents and many adventures. The Powell girls—Linda, Barbie and Susie had much fun with him, but sometimes, much worry and fear. Like when he flew off into a nearby tree and didn’t know his way home. But the most dramatic was the one that this book tells about, when Cha-Cha fell into the soup!
Natalie S. Powell, the “Mrs. May” in our book, is a retired Philadelphia teacher now living in Margate, N.J. Years ago, often telling the story of Cha-Cha and the soup to first-graders, the idea of writing it down in book form took shape. The first-grade children, who loved hearing the tale, created pictures for a bulletin board story. These later became part of the book, all written by the hand of Mrs. Powell.
And now, many years later, she decided to share copies of it with all her loved ones to enjoy.
